Abortion: Life and Death

A young couple entered a hospital as usual to do a routine prenatal visit. Suddenly, a doctor informed them that their infant was likely to have problems in growing. The couple would have to make an important choice deciding the infant’s life and death. Abortion has been seeing as a controversial issue around the world. Even though many people oppose doing such a thing, I will give three reasons why I agree that abortion should exist.

First of all, it is undoubted that every parent hopes their children can live in a happy and healthy life. Unfortunately, just like the story, some parents have no choice but to face problems about their infant’s health. When the infant was born, parents would encounter many realistic difficulties. Their children may be discriminated because of physical defects. This is not the life he or she wants to live. In addition, before parents decide to give birth to their baby, they have to think of their economic condition. Not every family has enough money to afford medical expenses.

Secondly, a baby should not come to world without love. Some women are pregnant by accident, and this may cause mental trauma. When they see their children, they will recall the bad memory that they have undergone. On the other hand, some couples don’t have responsibilities for taking care of children. If you don’t love children, and why you give birth to an innocent baby and make him or her experience suffering.

Thirdly, pregnant women have right to decide abortion or not. Before the awareness of woman’s rights raise, women cannot choose abortion if their husbands disagree. However, no one can force them to retain an infant. Only women can decide how to use their bodies. This is the basic respect for women.

At the end of the story, the couple decided to abort the pregnancy. They didn’t want their children suffering from congenital disability. This is my aunt’s real story. She told me that it was the most anguished decision in her lifetime. Being a parent is an important decision. You have to deal with a lot of realistic pressure, and how much love you can give to your future children. Abortion is prepared for the person who is not ready to be a parent. Every child deserves to be treated better.

We will continue practicing our drama, and show our best to the audience.

Cyberbullying

With the rising awareness of freedom of speech, people can express themselves freely everywhere. Recently, there has been a growing trend to confess your love to someone on Internet. In order to give people more courage to express their feelings, an anonymous system was invented. However, the opposite of love is hate. People can also backbite everyone in this system without showing their name. It was originally a good intention but finally became a killing tool.

Last week, the most astonishing news was that Taiwanese model and actress Cindy Yang committed suicide in her apartment. According to her suicide note, she was a victim of cyberbullying. In the past few months, Cindy had to receive treatment for anonymous online abuse because much of negative comment targeting Cindy appeared on a Facebook page calledKao Bei Bloggers.” Apparently, it was this dreadful power that made her choose to take her life.

Cindy’s death drew much attention on the importance of online bullying. Behind the screen, haters just type insulting words or tease someone, should victims totally accept it? That is intolerable. People say this is the price of being famous, but why don’t we think twice before hurting others? In addition to celebrities, many people around the world are facing cyberbullying but we don’t know. After watching the news, it seemed that there was too much freedom of speech. I hope that government can effectively legislate against cyberbullying, preventing more people from suffering fatal slander. Last but not the least, we should remember that each word has its influence. Regardless of an unwitting word or an offensive word, they all can destroy a person’s life.

Different beautiful

No one is born to be perfect, but we can choose to make our life perfect. Some people see their defects as obstacles, and then they may lose self-confidence or give up their dream. However, once you change your mind, your defect can be an opportunity to stand out in the crowd. What you want to be all depends on you.

Chantelle Brown Young, a 19-year-old girl coming from Canada, has suffered from Vitiligo when she was 4 years old. She dreamed of becoming a model when she was a child. Unfortunately, Chantelle encountered many difficulties because of the white patches on her dark skin. The bullying started in school, and no one thought she was beautiful. People teased her appearance defect, even called her cow or zebra. The series of frustrations almost destroyed her.

Even though everyone looked down on her, she told herself that she needed to accept her defect, embrace it and enjoy it. To her surprise, her unique appearance caught the attention of the judge, who invited her to vie in cycle 21 of America’s Next Top Model. It was a turning point that changed her life. The white patches were immediately being the spotlight. The girl once deemed that she had lost at the starting line, but she showed her success to manifest that being different was the most beautiful thing in the world.

Nowadays people pursue same kind of fashion, like wearing similar clothes or makeup. We all forget everyone has their own uniqueness, so don’t want to be others. Try to be yourself and love yourself.

The Imitation Game

Since I joined the DAFL student association, I haven’t had time to see a movie. Last week, Chloe and Annie invited me to see The Imitation Game. This movie had been nominated for eight Oscars, so I thought it was worth squeezing in some time to see it. I originally thought the movie just wanted to tell us how a genius uses his talent to win the war, but there were actually many details we could think carefully.
The movie started with two policemen receiving news that someone had broken into mathematician Alan Turing’s house. In fact, it was Alan’s lover who robbed his house. However, to keep his secret, Alan had no choice but to drive the policemen away. He was a homosexual. As everyone could imagine, he couldn't escape from the crime of homosexuality after all.
Alan Turing was certainly a genius even though other people thought he was a freak. His unusual way of thinking made future generations want to know more about him. Maybe some people thought the whole movie emphasized Alan’s questions “Am I a man or a machine?” but in my opinion, the movie focused more on Alan’s endless love to his dead soul mate. Love is a mystery, and even a genius cannot solve it throughout his life.

New semester

Time flies, a new semester begins again. It's time to set new goal. Last year my goal was to join the DAFL Student Association, and I did it. Maybe it sounds easy, but the reason why I choose to join is that  I want to learn how to hold activities. This year I want to be a backpacker with my friends, I hope it can come true.
